China will provide more high-quality green products to the world and better contribute to global green development, said a foreign ministry spokesman at a press briefing in Beijing on Friday.
Lin Jian, the spokesman, made the remarks when commenting on the news that China's annual production of new energy vehicles (NEVs) surpassed the 10 million milestone for the first time on Thursday, becoming the first country in the world to reach this target.
"The rapid development of China's NEV industry, with about 90 percent of its output used for domestic consumption, not only reflects the potential of China's super-large market, but also demonstrates the Chinese government's firm determination to promote green and low-carbon development and make positive contributions to global carbon neutrality," Lin said.
The International Energy Agency estimates that 45 million NEVs will have to be sold worldwide by 2030 in order to meet the carbon neutrality target. China, a major force behind the objective, promises to make even greater contributions to the global movement toward a greener future.
"China will continue to promote high-quality development and high-level opening-up, deepen cooperation in the production and supply chains of new energy, promote technological innovation and industrial development, provide more high-quality green products to the world, and better contribute to global green development," said the spokesman.
"As President Xi Jinping's Special Representative and Vice Premier of the State Council Ding Xuexiang pointed out at the World Leaders Climate Action Summit at the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the solution to the issue of climate change ultimately depends on a radical transformation of the development model. The international community should work together to accelerate energy transformation in a fair, orderly and just manner and maintain the stability of the new energy industry chain and supply chain. We should promote the accessibility and innovation of green products and technologies, accelerate the cultivation of new quality productivity, and work together to create a free and fair international environment for green and low-carbon investment, trade and technological cooperation, so as to contribute to the global green and low-carbon transition," Lin said.
