China and Peru will further consolidate political mutual trust, bring the comprehensive strategic partnership between two countries to new heights and better benefit the people of the two countries, said foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian,at a press briefing in Beijing on Friday.
According to Lin, Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Peruvian President Dina Boluarte on Thursday afternoon to exchange ideas on bilateral relations and cooperation in key areas. The two heads of state witnessed the signing of a cooperation plan on promoting the building of the Belt and Road Initiative, and a protocol on upgrading the bilateral free trade agreement, and the exchange of multiple bilateral cooperation documents on economy and trade, industrial investment, industrial parks, education, green development and other sectors. The two sides issued a joint statement on deepening their comprehensive strategic partnership. The two leaders also attended the opening ceremony of the Chancay Port via video link.
Xi pointed out that as two ancient civilizations, China and Peru have become a model of solidarity and cooperation between countries of different sizes, systems and cultures.
"In the past 53 years since the two countries established diplomatic relations, trade and investment cooperation has surged, bringing tangible benefits to the people of the two countries. China and Peru will align development strategies, deeply tap cooperation potential and forge a new practical cooperation pattern. The two countries will strengthen the two driving forces of trade and investment, promote the development of traditional and emerging industries and facilitate the integration of the industrial and supply chains. China and Peru will also enhance the exchange of experience in governance, shoulder the responsibility of mutual learning between civilizations entrusted by the times and carry forward the traditional friendship between China and Peru to next generations," said Lin.
China and Peru both uphold multilateralism and oppose protectionism. China stands ready to enhance coordination and communication within the framework of the China-CELAC Forum, and make contributions to China-Latin America relations, said Lin.
"This is President Xi Jinping's second state visit to Peru, and also the third meeting between the two heads of state within the year, having historical and practical significance. China would like to work with Peru in following the important consensus reached by the heads of states of two countries, further consolidate political mutual trust, improve the quality and upgrade practical cooperation, propel the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Peru to new heights, and better benefit the people of both countries," said Lin.
