Chinese President Xi Jinping called for continuous efforts to further develop China-New Zealand comprehensive strategic partnership in a meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on Friday.

The bilateral meeting takes place on the sidelines of the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, which is being held on Friday and Saturday in Lima.

"Ten years ago when I visited New Zealand, both sides decided to establish a China-New Zealand comprehensive strategic partnership and build a community of shared interests between China and New Zealand. Over the past 10 years, China-New Zealand relations have maintained a healthy and stable development momentum, significantly enhancing the well-being of people in both countries, and this is something we should cherish deeply. China is willing to work with the New Zealand government under your leadership to further enhance the spirit of 'striving to be the first', and strive to continuously advance the China-New Zealand comprehensive strategic partnership, making greater contributions to regional and global peace, stability, development and prosperity," Xi said.

Xi arrived in the Peruvian capital earlier on Thursday for the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and a state visit to the Latin American country at the invitation of Peruvian President Dina Boluarte.

Closer Brazil-China relations rely on better people-to-people exchanges: president

2024-11-16 10:44 Last Updated At:11:07

The promotion of Brazil-China relations depends not only on economic and trade cooperation and intergovernmental exchanges, but also on strengthening people-to-people exchanges, said Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in an interview with China Central Television prior to Chinese President Xi Jinping's upcoming visit to Brazil.

In the interview conducted in Brasilia, Lula said that the connection between the people of the two countries is becoming closer and closer, and that exchanges between people will become more frequent and more friendly, setting an exemplar for exchanges between world countries.

"I can feel the interaction and integration between China and Brazil. The deepening of this integration cannot rely only on economic and trade cooperation or exchanges between heads of state, but also requires strengthening people-to-people exchanges. We hope that more Chinese will come to Brazil, we hope that more Chinese will study Brazil, and we hope that more Chinese will learn Portuguese. We also hope that more Brazilians will learn Mandarin, more Brazilians will go to China, and more Brazilians will work in China. In other words, people-to-people exchanges will consolidate the relationship between Brazil and China. Did you know that some people criticize the comprehensive strategic partnership between Brazil and China, but I think this is a good thing because we are considering the interests of both countries together. This relationship between Brazil and China also provides a model for exchanges between other countries," said the Brazilian president.

After attending the the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Lima, Peru on Friday and Saturday and completing his ongoing state visit to Peru, Xi will travel to Rio de Janeiro to attend the 19th G20 Summit and pay a state visit to Brazil at the invitation of Lula da Silva from Nov 17 to 21.
