Israeli warplanes renewed on Sunday morning their raids on Beirut's southern suburbs, shortly after the Israeli army issued another warning for evacuation, according to Lebanese media reports.

On Sunday morning, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued a new evacuation order for residents in the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon. The order instructed residents of three specific buildings to evacuate immediately. The IDF stated that the areas were linked to Hezbollah militants and that action would soon be taken against the relevant targets.

The Israeli army has intensified its raids in the past few days on various areas in Beirut's southern suburbs that allegedly belong to Hezbollah, causing great destruction and heavy material losses.

Since September 23, the Israeli army has levelled up its air attack on Lebanon in an escalation of conflict with Hezbollah. In early October, Israel initiated a ground operation across its northern border into Lebanon.

The death toll from Israeli attacks on Lebanon since the beginning of the current round of Israeli-Hezbollah conflict had reached 3,452, with injuries rising to 14,664, said the Lebanese Health Ministry on Saturday.

Shanghai expands "open fare gates" piloting to facilitate subway passenger flows

2024-11-17 18:03 Last Updated At:18:47

Shanghai on Saturday expanded its piloting of an "open fare gates" mode at subway stations in a bid to facilitate passenger flows during rush hours.

In April, Shanghai started keeping turnstile gates open at Zhanghuabang Station on Line 3, Yangshupu Station on Line 4 and Wuzhong Road Station on Line 15, so that the passengers could enter or leave the stations more quickly after paying with their transport cards or smart phones.

Shanghai on Saturday increased the pilot station number to 21 to collect data until June next year, when relevant authorities will assess the data and decide whether to further the measure.

"It's convenient and smart, with the passengers passing through the fare gates fast," said a passenger.

"We will continue to arrange staff and volunteers to guide the passengers, until the passengers get comfortable with the measure," said Chen Lei, an official with Line 9 of Shanghai Metro.
