A Chilean politician has hailed the significance of a speech delivered on behalf of Chinese President Xi Jinping's at the 31st Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting in Peru's Lima, highlighting Xi's call for greater global cooperation and integration amid growing uncertainty and protectionism.
Xi's written speech, delivered by Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit 2024 on Friday, stressed greater efforts to steer economic globalization in the right direction. It also called for taking responsibility for the times and working together to promote the development of the Asia-Pacific region.
In an interview with the China Global Television Network (CGTN), Reben Oyarzo, who serves as a member of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile shared his impressions of the proposals presented by the Chinese leader, who he described as one of the key leaders in the Asia-Pacific.
"He shows us, the brother countries linked to China, the path we need to follow and the goal we must reach. An open economy, green investment, as he said in his speech, equity and inclusion, public policies, increasing workers' wages, and strengthening small- and medium-sized enterprises—these are all important and relevant issues. I believe that working on the basis of an open economy that unites us will lead us to face great challenges and achieve the remarkable progress that China has made in just a few years," he said.
