The Chinese community in Brazil has warmly welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the Latin American country, hoping that the upcoming meeting between the two heads of state will bring more opportunities for further deepening cooperation between the two countries.
Waving Chinese and Brazilian national flags and holding banners adorned with warm messages, people from all walks of life lined the streets of Rio de Janeiro, capital of Brazil, on Sunday afternoon local time to welcome President Xi.
Xi arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday to attend the 19th G20 Summit and pay a state visit to the Latin American country at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
During his stay in Brazil, Xi will hold talks with Lula to discuss bilateral relations and exchange views on international and regional issues of mutual interest.
"China and Brazil are major countries and also the members of G20 and BRICS. Under the new government of President Lula, the relations between Brazil and China have grown closer. Brazil's economy has been on the rise over the past years, presenting a great opportunity for China. There are many Chinese enterprises and technologies that align well with Brazil's needs. As two of the world's largest countries, Brazil and China have numerous opportunities for cooperation," said one of those coming to welcome President Xi.
"Brazil and China have had diplomatic relations for 50 years. The two countries have cooperated across various fields over the years. As of this year, more than 1,000 Chinese enterprises have established their businesses in Brazil. I hope President Xi's visit will further deepen the cooperation between the two countries," said another person.
Xi's trip to Brazil immediately follows his state visit to Peru, where the Chinese president also attended the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting.
The 19th G20 Summit will take place in Rio de Janeiro on Monday and Tuesday, under the theme of 'Building a just world and a sustainable planet.'
