A cultural exchange event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Brazil was held in Brasilia on Wednesday, on the occasion of Chinese President Xi Jinping's attendance at the 19th G20 Summit and state visit to the country.
The event was co-sponsored by China Media Group (CMG) and the Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC).
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva sent a congratulatory letter to the event, wishing it a complete success.
Noting that it is of great significance, Lula said that the event will further consolidate the long-standing cultural bridge between the two countries.
Brazil hopes to further deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership with China, an important economic and trade partner of the Latin American country, promote more extensive exchanges of traditions and cultures of the two countries, and enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, said the Brazilian president in the letter.
Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, also Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, delivered a speech at the event, stating that Brazil and China, both major developing countries and representatives of emerging economies, will continue to join hands to implement the important consensus reached by President Lula and President Xi and deepen cooperation in various fields, and Brazil is willing to team up with CMG and other Chinese media to further enhance exchanges and cooperation and work together to promote the building of a community with a shared future for China and Brazil.
CMG President Shen Haixiong said in his speech that CMG, as a world-class new mainstream media, has been committed to boosting cultural exchanges between the two countries and stands ready to work with people from all walks of life in Brazil to deepen people-to-people exchanges between the two sides and jointly advance the China-Brazil comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.
Also present at the event were Brazilian Minister of Institutional Affairs Alexandre Padilha, Minister of Secretariat of Social Communication Paulo Pimenta, Minister of Culture Margareth Menezes, Ministry of Tourism Executive Secretary Ana Lopes, and EBC President Jean Lima.
They hope that the two countries will continue to expand cultural exchanges and look forward to more cooperation in other sectors in the future.
Brazilian Ambassador to China Marcos Galvao and Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Zhu Qingqiao delivered speeches via video links at the event.
In addition, CMG also inked cooperation documents with Brazilian Ministry of Culture, Secretariat of Social Communication, EBC, and Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA), with all of them included in the list of outcome documents of President Xi's state visit to Brazil.
CMG also exchanged cooperation documents with the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival to further intensify exchanges on film culture.
The results of a poll jointly carried out by CMG's New Era International Communication Research Institute and the Brazilian Center for the Study of Economic and Social Law were released at the event.
According to the poll, 86.4 percent of the respondents believe that China and Brazil are close partners, and 95.6 percent speak positively of China's outstanding contribution to the global economy.
A Brazilian youth orchestra, who performed for Professor Peng Liyuan, wife of President Xi, during the 2019 BRICS Summit in Brasilia, performed at this event, wishing the China-Brazil friendship to last forever.
The orchestra also played "Happy Birthday to You" and presented a greeting card signed by all the members to wish Peng a happy birthday. Shen accepted this card on her behalf.
A total of more than 200 guests from the Brazilian political, economic, cultural, academic and media sectors attended the event.
