A cultural exchange event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Brazil was held in Brasilia on Wednesday, on the occasion of Chinese President Xi Jinping's attendance at the 19th G20 Summit and state visit to the country.
The event was co-sponsored by China Media Group (CMG) and the Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC).
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva sent a congratulatory letter to the event, wishing it a complete success.
Noting that it is of great significance, Lula said that the event will further consolidate the long-standing cultural bridge between the two countries.
Brazil hopes to further deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership with China, its important economic and trade partner, promote more extensive exchanges of traditions and cultures of the two countries, and enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, said the Brazilian president in the letter.
The CMG inked cooperation documents with the Brazilian Ministry of Culture, the Secretariat of Social Communication, the EBC, and the Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA), with all of the four agreements included in the list of outcome documents of President Xi's state visit to Brazil.
The CMG also exchanged a cooperation document with the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival to further intensify exchanges on film culture.
Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, also Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, delivered a speech at the event, stating that 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil, and the two nations, both major developing countries and representatives of emerging economies, will continue to join hands to implement the important consensus reached by President Lula and President Xi and deepen cooperation in various fields.
Brazil is willing to team up with the CMG and other Chinese media to further enhance exchanges and cooperation and work together to promote the building of a community with a shared future for China and Brazil, said Alckmin.
The CMG launched the 4th Chinese Film and Television Exhibition and Broadcasting Season at the event, with a number of excellent Chinese films and television works such as "A Road to Prosperity" and "Chinese Calligraphy Conference" included to present the rich and colorful Chinese culture.
In addition, Hi+, a VOD channel for premium TV and film programs, was jointly established by China International Television Corporation and Box Brazil Media Group, allowing Brazilian audiences to watch various high-quality programs from China through on-demand streaming.
In addition, the results of a poll jointly carried out by CMG's New Era International Communication Research Institute and the Brazilian Center for the Study of Economic and Social Law were released at the event.
According to the poll, 86.4 percent of the respondents believe that China and Brazil are close partners, and 95.6 percent speak positively of China's outstanding contribution to the global economy.
The list of premium programs marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries was released at the event as well.
Annie Tavares, the niece of well-known Brazilian journalist and writer Carlos Tavares, shared the story of her uncle's friendship with China. Tavares forged decades of profound friendship with China and was an important envoy connecting people of the two countries, and pushing forward the development of China-Brazil relations.
A Brazilian youth orchestra, who performed for Professor Peng Liyuan, wife of President Xi, during the 2019 BRICS Summit in Brasilia, also performed at this event, wishing the China-Brazil friendship to last forever.
A total of more than 200 guests from the Brazilian political, economic, cultural, academic and media sectors attended the event.
