The Suzhou Industrial Park has served as an example of cooperation between China and Singapore and witnessed Singapore’s participation in China's reform and opening-up, said Chinese President Xi Jinping when meeting with Senior Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong in Beijing on Tuesday.
The Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), which was launched in May 1994, is an important intergovernmental cooperation project between China and Singapore.
"China congratulates Singapore on its smooth transfer of power in May this year and believes that Singapore will maintain the momentum of prosperity and development. As an old, good friend of the Chinese people, you have long cared about and supported China-Singapore cooperation. In a snap of a finger, the Suzhou Industrial Park has been in operation for 30 years. It has set a role model for cooperation between the two countries. It is also an important witness to Singapore's in-depth participation in China's reform and opening-up," said Xi.
"I'm very happy to be back in China and to be calling on President Xi. I was in Suzhou yesterday to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Suzhou Industrial Park, proud to see the park thriving and prospering. And I'm also very glad that the SIP has played a valuable role in China's economic development and transformation," said Lee.
At the invitation of the Chinese side, Lee Hsien Loong is on a visit to China from Nov 24 to 29.

China is ready to work with other countries to use the three global initiatives as an opportunity to elevate global maritime governance and improve the well-being of all people, according to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks on Tuesday in a live video address delivered at a symposium on global maritime cooperation and ocean governance.
Noting that global governance is facing new opportunities and challenges, Wang said that the active promotion of global maritime governance and the construction of a maritime community with a shared future are integral to building a community with a shared future for all.
He called on all parties to promote high-quality and sustainable marine development, maintain universal and lasting maritime security, and promote the global exchange of marine civilization.
The international community has always agreed that dialogue and cooperation should be strengthened, that maritime peace and stability should be maintained, and that global maritime governance should be advanced, Wang stressed.
China is ready to work hand in hand with the international community to promote maritime peace, prosperity and civilization integration for all countries, he said.
