Palestinian death toll from Israeli attacks in Gaza rises to 44,249

2024-11-27 09:15 Last Updated At:10:37

The Palestinian death toll from the ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza had risen to 44,249, with 104,746 injured, Gaza-based health authorities said in a statement released on Tuesday.

In the past 24 hours, Israeli military operations in Gaza caused 14 deaths and 108 injuries, according to the statement.

Since the new round of Israel-Hamas conflict broke out in October 2023, 1,410 families have lost all their members in the conflict, 3,463 families have only one member left alive, and another 2,287 families have had members killed but still have multiple surviving members, indicating that there are a total of 7,160 families in Gaza with deceased members, said the statement.

According to reports from Palestinian media outlets, on Tuesday afternoon, the Israeli military bombed a school in the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood in northern Gaza. The school was being used as a shelter for displaced people, and this attack resulted in 15 deaths and dozens of injuries.

In response, the Israeli military confirmed the attack on the school that same day, claiming that the school had been used by Hamas militants as a command and control center.

Furthermore, at a gathering of Israeli settler advocacy groups in Jerusalem on Monday, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich declared that the Israeli occupation of Gaza is "achievable and essential". Smotrich went as far as asserting plans to decrease the Palestinian population in Gaza by more than half within two years through what he called "voluntary migration".

As a representative of the right-wing in Israeli politics, Smotrich has previously made numerous controversial statements.

On November 11, he expressed the desire for Israel to expand its sovereignty to the West Bank by 2025. Furthermore, in August, he controversially claimed that starving two million Gazans to death could be "reasonable and morally justifiable".
