Former Kyrgyz Prime Minister Djoomart Otorbaev has stressed how China's rapid economic growth serves as an opportunity for enhanced cooperation among other developing nations, while highlighting the country's efforts in fostering global harmony and boosting the influence of the Global South.
Otorbaev was attending the 12th Global Video Media Forum (VMF), which opened in Quanzhou in east China's Fujian Province on Tuesday, bringing together 200 representatives from mainstream media and international organizations from over 60 countries and regions to the historic coastal city.
Addressing a media dialogue focusing on the "Global South", the former prime minister emphasized that developing countries must unite in order to face up to the current set of global challenges, and said China has shown to be a strong cooperation partner to navigate through these difficulties.
"China is winning economically, [it is] competitive, [it offers] cooperation, so naturally countries of the Global South are drifting towards the entity who understand our issues, who are sharing what we want to see and who are prepared to cooperate," said Otorbaev.
"At the same time, I would say some countries, established countries, they're not really inviting developing countries to their own circle. So the whole world must be harmonious. That is our continuous message to everybody," he added.
Hosted by the CCTV Video News Agency (CCTV+), the two-day forum held in-depth discussions on the application and governance of artificial AI technologies in the media sector and established new exchange platforms based on intelligent communication.
The forum also saw the release of the Joint Initiative for Media Dialogue and Cooperation of Global South, so as to build a "Global South" narrative system and amplify the voices of its media and foster mutual learning and exchanges to drive the shared prosperity of Global South.
Otorbaev said that the launch of such a communication platform can build on the strong cooperation mechanisms which have already been established to boost development across the Global South.
"If China will continue to do this policy of invitation, [and continues to] grant invitations to join the rank of harmonious, joint development, then things will be making well. We are good in competition, we are good in cooperation. The Global South must improve communication. This is a great way ahead of us, and our current event is really a huge step towards our brighter future," he said.
Launched by CCTV+ in 2011, the VMF has grown into a premier platform for media professionals from around the world to discuss the latest trends in video content communication and innovation, while the event also aims to foster greater interaction and collaboration between domestic and international media.
