The U.S. Electoral College cast votes on Tuesday for a new president based on November's election results, officially electing former President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump as the country's next executive leader.

Electoral college meetings were held in all 50 states and the District of Columbia on the same day. The results showed that Trump secured 312 electoral votes, while current Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris received 226 votes.

On January 6 next year, a joint session of the U.S. Congress will be held to count the electoral votes and ratify the results. Trump is set to be sworn in on January 20.

Cholera cases in Sudan climb to 47,366, including 1,235 fatalities: health ministry

The number of cholera cases in Sudan has climbed to 47,366, including 1,235 deaths, Sudan's health ministry announced on Tuesday.

The ministry said in a statement that the outbreak has spread to 81 districts across 11 states of the country.

The statement also said that due to armed conflicts, large numbers of people have been displaced in several districts of central and southern Sudan, which has led to a further deterioration of the outbreak.

Since fighting erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in April 2023, epidemic diseases such as cholera, malaria, measles, and dengue fever have spread, leading to many deaths.

In July 2024, a new round of cholera outbreak hit Sudan, marking the second cholera epidemic since the country was plagued by the armed conflict.
