China welcomes the inclusion of nine BRICS partner states which signifies the reaching of a new level of cooperation within this multilateral framework, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said on Tuesday.
Mao Ning, the spokeswoman, made the statement at a press conference in Beijing after Russia, the founding member which took the rotating presidency this year, revealed the full list of the bloc's new partner states on Monday.
The partner states comprise Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Uganda.
"In October this year, President Xi Jinping attended the BRICS Summit 2024 in Kazan and reached important consensus with leaders of other BRICS countries establishing a partner country mechanism, which is another milestone in the process of BRICS development after the historic membership expansion last year. After the summit, China has actively worked with Russia, the BRICS chair country, and implemented the mechanism with other BRICS countries. A list of BRICS partner countries was finally agreed on, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Uganda," Mao said.
"With the partner countries on board the BRICS family, the BRICS cooperation is elevated to a new height, the BRICS mechanism has greater representation, and BRICS sees its appeal and influence grow more saliently, becoming the main platform to promote solidarity and cooperation between the Global South," she said.
China is willing to work with other BRICS members and partner countries, to expand pragmatic collaboration across various fields while upholding the principles of openness, inclusiveness, and win-win cooperation, the spokeswoman said.
The aim is to enhance high-quality development of greater BRICS cooperation, and promote the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind, Mao said.
