China on Thursday called for a steady development of China-Japan relations via more non-governmental exchanges.
The advice came as Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ying briefed the media on the outcomes of the second meeting of High-Level Consultation Mechanism on People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges between China and Japan at a routine news briefing in Beijing.
"Yesterday, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi co-hosted the second meeting of High-Level Consultation Mechanism on People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges between China and Japan in Beijing. Chinese Minister of Culture and Tourism Sun Yeli, Japanese Minister of Education, Culture Sports, Science and Technology Abe Toshiko, and other heads of competent departments from both countries attended. Both parties identified the progress of people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries, and reached consensus on communications and cooperation on ten fields, including youth, education, tourism, sister cities, sports, culture and entertainment, media and think tanks, and women's affairs," said Mao.
"We hope that both sides will take the chance of the meeting to expand bilateral exchange, innovate communications, and create a healthy and rational public opinions environment. Both sides should establish a correct and objective recognitions towards each other, and build up more bridges of non-governmental friendly communications to facilitate a healthy and steady development of China-Japan relationship," said Mao.
