The three global initiatives proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping reflect China's deep respect of differences among cultures and civilizations and the country's ardent hope of building a community with a shared future for mankind, said Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
In an interview with China Media Group released on Friday, Anwar hailed the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative proposed by President Xi, saying these proposals are fundamental for promoting cultural understanding and peaceful development worldwide.
"There are three fundamental pillars, for example, global security. And saying that look, we strengthen to help one another, not to bully and torture one another or kill, like you see in Gaza. In terms of global prosperity or economy, we are talking about enhancing trade and investment, and where necessary to help and assist, and he presented the message very clear. And third, he mentioned about the issue of culture and civilization, which is again rare among leaders. He said there will be differences, but we should respect the differences and understand the cultures of various civilizations," he said.
In contrast to the usual emphasis on economic growth and environmental issues, these initiatives shine a spotlight on the importance of cross-cultural understanding and respect, according to Anwar.
"This is something unique. We have leaders who talk about economic fundamental affairs, sustainability, or climate, but very few attach the need to understand values, cultures, and civilization. This is what I am very passionate about and this is where we both concur. We certainly welcome such positive gestures for the good of humankind, and it's important. To me, it's a remarkable feat to have a president of a great country focusing on the need to understand one another, to respect other cultures and civilizations," he said.
Anwar highlighted China's concrete actions to promote sustainable development in developing and underdeveloped regions, emphasizing its equal attitude towards all countries.
"You talk about a shared future, and you have to do it. So, you have seen measures other than the Belt and Road Initiative, or some other programs that have been introduced by the Chinese government. And more importantly, to be able to have friendly exchanges and interaction internationally. It's amazing. I mean the focus in Africa, in ASEAN, and in Latin America, and consider all these countries, big or small, as equal and just focusing on economic sustainability and climate responsibility for a shared future," he said.
