Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday met with Toshihiro Nikai, former secretary-general of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the delegates from the Japan-China Friendship Parliamentarians' Union in Tokyo.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, expressed appreciation for Nikai's staying true to the original aspiration for China-Japan peace and amity, and his long-standing dedication to pushing for the development of the bilateral relations.
Wang encouraged Nikai and the Japanese friends from all walks of life to make new contributions to the sound and steady development of the bilateral relations.
In 2024, China overcame challenges such as the sluggish global economic recovery and the mounting external pressures, achieved economic growth of five percent, and continued to contribute about 30 percent to the global economic growth, demonstrating the strong resilience and broad prospects of its economy, Wang said.
China's high-quality development will bring important opportunities for the cooperation between the two countries, he said.
China is willing to work together with Japan to further deepen pragmatic cooperation, strengthen exchanges in various fields, especially among the youth, activate sub-national exchanges, so as to continue supporting each other’s pursuit of economic development and further consolidate the public support for the bilateral ties, Wang said.
Nikai and the delegates spoke highly of the momentum of improvement in the Japan-China relations, saying that it is of great importance to promote friendly exchanges between the people of the two countries.
They pledged their commitment to the Japan-China friendship, and expressed their willingness to contribute to the steady development of the bilateral relations.
