The Gaza-based health authorities said in a statement on Tuesday that 792 people had been killed and 1,663 others injured in the Gaza Strip since the Israeli military resumed intense airstrikes across the enclave on March 18 after a two-month ceasefire.
Over the past 24 hours, 62 lost their lives and 296 wounded people were brought to hospitals across Gaza, bringing the total death toll to 50,144, with 113,704 injured since fighting erupted in early October 2023, the statement said.
Also on Tuesday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued a statement saying that since the Israeli army resumed military operations in Gaza earlier this month, it is estimated that more than 150 members of Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups have been killed.
The statement said that at present, Israeli ground forces are carrying out operations in many locations across Gaza. The Israeli army has advanced to the Netzarim Corridor in the central Gaza Strip and occupied about half of the corridor.
On the same day, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement that he had approved the operational plan for IDF's Gaza Division to continue the military operations in Gaza.
Katz said the decision was made after meeting with several senior military officials.
Noting that Israel's main goal now is to bring all hostages home, he warned that if Hamas does not release the remaining hostages, it will pay "increasingly heavy prices".
The Financial Times reported on Monday that the Israeli military had formulated a plan to completely defeat Hamas and occupy the Gaza Strip.
According to the reported plan, the IDF will mobilize several combat divisions to re-invade Gaza, control large tracts of land in the enclave, and force the region's 2.2-million population into a small so-called "humanitarian zone" along the Mediterranean coast.
Gaza will then be administered by the Israeli army, which could also take over the distribution of all humanitarian aid and had even assessed how many calories each Palestinian needs.
On Tuesday afternoon local time, the Israeli parliament passed the 2025 state budget, which amounts to 619 billion shekels (about 168.82 billion U.S. dollars) excluding debt-servicing.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said the budget addresses all the needs of the war, both on the frontlines and in the rear, until victory.
However, the opposition accused the ruling coalition of only considering its own political needs, which would destroy Israel's economy after ruining the country's security.
