China, IAEA ink deals to expand nuclear cooperation

China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) signed two key agreements on Wednesday in Beijing, marking a new chapter in nuclear cooperation.

Under the agreements, China and the IAEA will enhance joint efforts in critical areas, including nuclear security, agriculture, healthcare, environment, and basic nuclear scientific research.

Additionally, China will leverage its nuclear research institutes and universities to train professionals for the Global South, bolstering global governance and talent exchange in the nuclear field.

The signing ceremony was attended by officials from the China Atomic Energy Authority and a delegation led by Rafael Mariano Grossi, director general of the IAEA.

"China and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have signed two major cooperation documents. The first document is the country programme framework, which serves as a strategic guide for joint projects between China and the IAEA, covering seven key areas including nuclear and radiation safety and security, agriculture and human health. The second agreement is on education and training in the safe and peaceful use of nuclear technology, which aims to boost talent development. These agreements highlight China's growing role in global nuclear governance and its commitment to peaceful and secure nuclear development," said Huang Ping, secretary of the CAEA.

France's export-driven economy in Brittany faces pressures due to tariff uncertainty

      2025-05-01 12:28 Last Updated At:12:37

Western France's key export region, Brittany, faces growing production and supply chain challenges due to rising tariff uncertainties.

The Brittany region is known for its aviation, automotive, and pharmaceutical industries. It is rich in marine resources and has a long-standing agricultural tradition. With its export-oriented economy, Brittany has long played a vital role in global and regional trade.

Amid growing global economic uncertainties, local government in Brittany has been working to assess the impact on businesses and helping companies overcome challenges.

"International exchange and cooperation require balance. Currently, the global situation has become somewhat turbulent due to changes in U.S. tariff policies," said Loig Chesnais-Girard, Brittany President.

"The escalating tariff race is a cause for concern. As an export-oriented region, Brittany is particularly vulnerable to supply chain disruptions, which are becoming increasingly unstable. The current situation runs counter to what we have worked toward for many years -- building an environment of lower tariffs and smoother trade. We are working closely with companies across Brittany to respond at the regional level, assess the impact of these changes, and minimize the negative effects. The lack of transparency and the volatility of tariff policies are especially troubling," said Gael Guegan, Director and Regional Councilor for Economic Development of Brittany.
