Russia said on Sunday that its air defense systems had shot down another U.S.-designed F-16 fighter jet operated by Ukrainian forces, while Ukraine, on the same day, reported 117 combat engagements across the front lines.
In a daily briefing, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that its forces seized another settlement in Donetsk region, and repelled multiple Ukrainian attacks and launched offensives in the directions of Sumy, Kharkov, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson in the past 24 hours.
The ministry also stated that, from Saturday night to early Sunday morning, the Russian air defense system intercepted and shot down 13 Ukrainian drones, including 12 in Rostov Oblast and one in Belgorod Oblast.
Also on Sunday, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported 117 combat engagements across the front lines, including the fiercest Russian offensive in the Pokrovsk direction.
The Ukrainian side said the Russian army launched 38 attacks on the Ukrainian positions in several settlements in the Pokrovsk direction on Sunday, and six battles were currently underway.
The Ukrainian army also repelled Russian advances in the directions of Liman, Toretsk, and Kharkov, it said.
Meanwhile, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine said that Russian missiles slammed into the heart of the northern Ukrainian city of Sumy on Sunday, killing 34 people.
The Russian side did not respond to the report yet.
