Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chinese president, bid farewell to To Lam, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee on Tuesday morning before concluding his state visit to the southeast Asian country.

Although the visit was brief, Xi said, it was rich in activities and fruitful in outcomes.

The two sides reaffirmed their shared political will to advance the global socialist cause, expressed their common aspiration to comprehensively promote bilateral strategic cooperation to achieve the six goals, namely stronger political mutual trust, more substantial security cooperation, deeper practical cooperation, more solid public support for bilateral relations, closer coordination and collaboration on multilateral issues and better management with solutions to differences.

Both countries also voiced their readiness to jointly respond to external risks and challenges, safeguard regional peace and stability, and uphold international fairness and justice.

Xi said he is full of confidence in the development prospects of China-Vietnam relations, urging joint efforts to fully implement the outcomes of the visit and continue advancing the building of the China-Vietnam community with a shared future.

To Lam said Xi's visit was fruitful, with the two sides having in-depth exchanges on mutually concerned issues of overall and strategic significance and reaching a series of important consensuses.

The visit has significantly advanced strategic cooperation between the two parties and the two countries, strengthened Vietnam's confidence in overcoming risks and challenges, and elevated the friendship between the two peoples to a new height, said To Lam.

Vietnam will actively implement the outcomes of the visit, promote continuous development of relations between the two parties and the two countries, and create a future of shared prosperity for both nations, he said.

Xi wrapped up his visit to Vietnam on Tuesday afternoon.

Chinese airport upgrades international transfer area for smoother service

A newly revamped international transit zone in Haikou Meilan International Airport in south China's Hainan Province will officially begin service on Thursday, the first day of China's five-day May Day Holiday, to provide a more convenient and efficient service to tourists.

Trial operations of the international transit zone began on Monday.

A passenger plane carrying over 180 passengers departed from Melbourne, Australia and landed at Haikou Meilan International Airport in the early hours of Tuesday. Many of the passengers transferred to other destinations via the newly upgraded international transit zone.

Airport staff guided the passengers holding Chinese and international passports through separate channels in the transit area.

Thanks to a smart pre-screening system, travelers can pass swiftly through customs and security checks in the transit zone, and they do not have to reclaim checked luggage or undergo additional security screening.

The newly upgraded zone has significantly improved the passenger experience. Walking distances for transit passengers have been reduced by nearly 50 percent, and the customs inspection and waiting areas have been expanded by over 50 percent. The zone's capacity to handle passengers during peak hour has increased from 44 passengers per hour to 200.

"To Guangzhou, not even 5 minutes. Very fast, and very nice people," said one transiting passenger.
