The 137th Canton Fair, currently taking place in south China's Guangzhou City, has cemented its status as a key global trade hub, featuring a broad array of high-quality products from around the world, and highlighting China's growing influence in global trade.
Opening on Tuesday in Guangzhou, the provincial capital city of Guangdong Province, the fair has brought together buyers from over 220 countries and regions, with more than 31,000 companies showcasing new products.
As of 17:00 on the opening day, 64,530 overseas buyers attended the exhibition, marking a record 8.9 percent increase over the same time of last year.
The International Pavilion, designed as a "global village," is home to a wide range of unique exhibits. This year, international participation has surged, with global buyers eager to explore China's offerings amidst ongoing economic uncertainty.
Chilean buyer Vicente Tunon expressed his enthusiasm for the event’s diverse range of products.
"We arrived maybe one hour ago, just looking at all the products and different things that you can see. It's crazy! You can choose between everything from, I don't know, skincare products, technology, machines -- whatever you need. We have already worked with two factories from China. We're looking for them here in the fair, and we hopefully find them and meet them in person finally," said Tunon.
The Canton Fair's International Pavilion has also set up a dedicated exhibition contact center and launched initiatives like the Global Food Show, providing opportunities for exhibitors and buyers to connect and collaborate.
"We provide a full range of services for exhibitors at this year's Canton Fair International Pavilion, including exhibition preparation, sample transportation, and promotional efforts. A total of 736 companies from 50 countries and regions are taking part in the event. Moving forward, we will tailor trade matchmaking activities specifically for food industry importers to help businesses expand their market reach," said Tian Bo, international pavilion affairs manager for the Canton Fair Working Department at the China Foreign Trade Center.
The offline exhibition of the current fair runs in three phases from April 15 to May 5, spanning 1.55 million square meters and hosting around 74,000 booths.
The Canton Fair, officially known as the China Import and Export Fair, is held every spring and autumn in Guangzhou, since its founding in 1957, and has been seen as a barometer of China's foreign trade.
