      Xi holds welcome ceremony for visiting Azerbaijani president

      Chinese President Xi Jinping held a welcome ceremony for visiting President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev outside the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Wednesday.

      The military band played the national anthems of Azerbaijan and China, and a 21-gun salute was fired on the occasion.

      Aliyev, accompanied by Xi, reviewed the Guard of Honor of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. The two presidents also watched a march-past of the Guard of Honor.

      Xi's wife, Peng Liyuan, and Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, and other Chinese officials also attended the ceremony.

      President Aliyev's entourage includes his wife, the deputy prime minister, and the foreign minister, among others.

      Aliyev is on a state visit to China from Tuesday to Thursday at the invitation of Xi.

      The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) downgraded the regional economic growth forecast for 2025, according to a report released by the organization on Thursday.

      Due to trade tensions and policy uncertainties, the organization has lowered its economic growth forecast for the region in 2025 from 3.3 percent to 2.6 percent.

      It also projected that exports in the region would rise by only 0.4 percent this year, far lower than the increase of 5.7 perent of last year.
