A village fashion show highlighting Chinese ethnic culture has taken place recently in a plateau filled with blooming Lapland rosebay in Panzhou City, southwest China's Guizhou Province, offering a unique visual and cultural feast to visitors.
Dressed in traditional attire adorned with intricate ethnic embroideries and flowers, residents from various local ethnic groups, including the Yi, Miao, Bai, Buyi, and Dong ethnic groups, graced the runway amidst blooming flowers alongside professional models. The stunning display drew a crowd of visitors eager to capture the beauty of the moment with their cameras.
"I'm so lucky to see the show today and see people wearing traditional ethnic attire. I really like the fashion show. It's very beautiful, and I love the culture. The flowers here are beautiful, but the people here are even more beautiful," said a visitor from Bijie, in southwest China's Guizhou Province.
Additionally, elements of Lapland rosebay were innovatively incorporated into the design of clothing and accessories that feature unique ethnic cultural symbols, including the silver-laden headpieces of the Yi ethnic group.
Adi Asi, a fashion designer from the Yi ethnic group, decorated the shawls and hems with these flowers, infusing the ethnic garments with the vibrant colors of blooming spring, bringing a refreshing flair to the fashion show.
"Based on the traditional embroidery patterns of the Yi ethnic group, the new design integrates elements of Lapland rosebay to create a sense of flexibility. For example, we innovatively used the lines of traditional sun motifs that symbolizes light to form the pattern of the Lapland rosebay bud. The gentle curves of the 'ram horn' pattern, a swirling motif, are reimagined as the patterns of flower branches curling around hems and cuffs of the garments," she said.
Moreover, the runway extending through the sea of flowers also allows visitors to immerse themselves in the deep fusion of ethnic culture and eco-tourism. Various fashion shows of different themes are set to be held here every month to innovatively showcased traditional ethnic attire to audiences.
"Through this platform, we aim to display more about intangible cultural heritage and traditional ethnic culture, and modern fashion culture. We want to build a platform that connects rural and urban ethnic fashion activities, allowing more people to understand the ethnic culture," said Zhang Yichao, an award-winning designer and main producer of the village fashion show.
