China on Friday issued a new plan on promoting the deep integration of the transportation and energy sectors, and under the plan, the proportion of electricity in the country's transport sector's final energy consumption is targeted to reach 10 percent by 2027. The goal was outlined in a guideline jointly issued by the Ministry of Transport, the National Development and Reform Commission along with nine other departments.
The guideline outlines 25 key tasks in 8 areas, focusing on transportation infrastructure, transportation equipment, fuel supply, industry cultivation, and element security.
A major emphasis is placed on strengthening the coordination of transportation and energy infrastructure planning.
It also aims to promote the integration and interaction of transportation and energy infrastructure planning to ensure the development of a clean energy supply and security system for transportation.
In addition, the guideline also emphasizes the need to strengthen the support for land and sea resources used for the development of clean energy in transportation infrastructure. It calls for region-specific approaches to advancing the development and utilization of clean energy in railways, highways, ports, waterways, and hub stations.
It also calls for the phasing out of high-energy-consuming and high-emission transportation equipment, such as railway locomotives, vehicles, and ships. It encourages local regions to adopt region-specific approaches for developing and utilizing solar and wind energy through transportation infrastructure, while also establishing a number of innovative pilot projects for the integration of transportation and energy.
