The World Intelligence Expo 2024 opens a window for exhibitors to display innovations ranging from low-altitude aircrafts to artificial intelligence (AI) application, forging partnerships and mutual learning, participants said.

Themed on "Intelligence: Extensive Development Space, Sustainable Growth Driver," the World Intelligence Expo 2024 opened in Tianjin on Thursday, drawing participants from nearly 50 countries and regions.

The four-day event features cutting-edge technology from over 500 global companies, with the 10 themed exhibition areas covering a total of 100,000 square meters, featuring AI, intelligent vehicles, and robotics.

The exhibition of low-altitude economy has gained much attention. The growing low-altitude economy has led to the development and application of various types of innovative aerial vehicles for logistics, commuting, tourism and sports.

Markus Luetzenburger, sales director of Tensor AG, technology and aviation company from Germany, is on his first time attending the Expo. His company has brought along a new type of aircraft, designed for the Chinese market to the event's Tianjin venue.

With a payload of 330 kilos, the aircraft can take off without a runway and fly at low altitudes. It is suitable for emergency operations, agricultural monitoring, and other future scenarios.

He said feedback from the public has been very positive. Given China's focus on developing its low-altitude economy, his company wants to be among the first to enter the rapidly emerging market.

"I see a big market opportunity over the next years, because compared to other countries, the general aviation market in the low altitude airspace is still a small business, but with a huge potential to grow, with an enormous potential to grow here in China. China is very, very helpful and open to have talks to how to develop that business for the low altitude airspaces," Luetzenburger said.

The German participant said they are currently in talks with potential partners in China, and they expect to have their first products ready for sale after the Chinese New Year.

Harald Kuhn, director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic NanoSystems, is hosting a special session at his third participation in the Expo. Over the years, Kuhn has gained valuable insight into applying AI in various fields.

The event is a great opportunity to exchange ideas and learn from others, he emphasized.

"So (it's great) here to meet people all over the world and communicate together, and also discuss about the next steps here. I always learned a lot, coming home with new ideas. So it's always a great event for me. I see that China here has a lot of competence, built up more and more competence to bring AI into our life. We have a very long history in working together. And there are so many topics, especially what I mentioned on autonomous driving, also in the area of medical solutions. There are a lot of opportunities working together," Kuhn said.

For many, the Expo is not only an opportunity to learn about Chinese advances in AI, but also a starting point for new collaborations.

"The exhibition is organized at a high level. I've learned that artificial intelligence is already used everywhere in China, especially in mechanical manufacturing and medicine. I really like it. I think this is the future of humanity. I think China is one of the leading countries in the world in this field. So we are happy to participate in the Expo, and we will learn and gain experience in the AI field from China to implement it in Uzbekistan," said Umidbek Safarov, deputy chairman of Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The World Intelligence Expo 2024 is co-hosted by Tianjin and Chongqing. Both municipalities have stepped up efforts to boost their Al industries in recent years, and plan to take turns to host the expo in future.

Telecom companies from around the globe on Wednesday convened at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2024 to explore partnerships with Chinese firms, particularly in the booming area of 5G technology.

For executives, the conference offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into China's 5G advancements, and position their companies in the next generation of connectivity.

After having traveled for over 30 hours to the event, Patricio Olivares, a senior executive of telecom giant Claro Chile, emphasized the importance of securing new partnerships at the exhibition.

"I came from Chile, very far away from here. This trip is very important for our company because two weeks ago we won the 5G spectrum. We believe that China boasts the most technology. That's why we are here," he said.

Olivares has set a packed schedule; visiting a 5G factory in Nanjing upon arrival, attending the ongoing exhibition in Shanghai, and then plans to cap off his trip in south China's tech hub of Shenzhen.

"AI is extremely important. We have seen many things related to AI. (We are) really happy with Chinese technology," he said.

Exhibitors pointed to China's booming communication technology and a more robust industrial chain as key factors driving the surge in visitor attendance.

Lara Dewar, the chief marketing officer of GSMA, one of the organizers of the MWC, said China is a front-runner in 5G application, and its experience benefits other countries.

"There are thousands of use-cases of 5G coming out of China. We see a tremendous amount of cooperation and the sharing is hugely beneficial to everybody," she said.

The three-day WMC conference, which closes Friday, is expected to generate billions of dollars in contracts and solidify China's position as a major player in the global telecommunications industry.
