China aims to encourage common development, prosperity for all countries in global village: Xi

China aims to encourage common development and prosperity for all countries in the global village and turn win-win into a solid consensus, said Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Friday.

Xi made the remarks during his important speech at the Conference Marking the 70th Anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, where he highlighted the importance of uniting all forces to achieve prosperity.

"An ancient Chinese philosopher observed, 'The benevolent treat others with love, and the wise share with others benefits.' As a Latin American saying goes, 'The only way to be profitably national is to be generously universal.' An Arab proverb has it, 'With unity, the fire grows; without unity, the fire extinguishes.' In the era of economic globalization, what is needed is not gaps of division but bridges of communication, not iron curtains of confrontation but highways of cooperation. China has been advocating a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, promoting high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and endeavoring to deliver on the Global Development Initiative. Our goal is to benefit all with the opportunity of development, to diversify development paths, to help all nations share development fruits, to encourage common development and prosperity for all countries in the global village, and to turn win-win into a solid consensus," said Xi.

Around 600 people including former leaders of Vietnam, Myanmar and other countries, representatives of international and regional organizations, diplomatic envoys from more than 100 countries, Chinese and foreign experts and scholars, and media and business representatives attended the conference.

Put forth by then Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai seven decades ago, the five principles are mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, mutual non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence.

The Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence have been widely accepted and recognized by countries across the world. They have become important norms governing contemporary international relations.
