China Media Group (CMG) -- the flagship broadcaster of China -- launched on Sunday a special screening event of over a dozen premium television programs in Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan, aiming to enhance cultural exchange and strengthen bilateral ties ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping's upcoming state visit to the Central Asian country later this week.

Scheduled from July 2 to 6, President Xi will attend the 24th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Astana, Kazakhstan, and pay a state visit to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan at the invitation of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of the Republic of Kazakhstan and President Emomali Rahmon of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The screening features the CMG's documentaries and specials like "Encounters with Xi Jinping," "The Call of the Silk Road," and "A Road to Prosperity," highlighting China's diverse regional cultures and economic development. This event also aims to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between the two nations.

CMG President Shen Haixiong, Chinese Ambassador to Tajikistan Ji Shuming and Elena Batenkova, editor-in-chief of Russian service of Tajikistan's National Information Agency Khovar, delivered video messages for the launch.

"Today, transcending the geographical distance of over 4,000 kilometers between China and Tajikistan, and carrying forward the historical memory of the Silk Road spanning over two millennia, we jointly launch the screening event of China Media Group's premium programs in Tajikistan," Shen announced.

"China and Tajikistan are friendly neighbors connected by mountains and rivers. The history of exchanges between China and Tajikistan flows with mutual trust, friendship, and cooperation, rooted deeply in the longstanding interactions between the two peoples. President Xi Jinping and President Emomali Rahmon have charted a grand blueprint for the development of China-Tajikistan relations, providing new opportunities for deepening friendship and strengthening cooperation between our media. In May last year, the memorandum of understanding on cooperation signed between the CMG and the Committee on Television and Radio Broadcasting of Tajikistan was a significant outcome of the meetings between the two heads of state," he said.

Ambassador Ji Shumin echoed these sentiments, describing Tajikistan as a friendly neighbor and comprehensive strategic partner of China. He emphasized the screening event as a pivotal moment in cultural exchange, aligning with the Global Civilization Initiative put forward by Xi in 2023 and enhancing mutual understanding between the two peoples.

"On behalf of the National Information Agency of Tajikistan Khovar, I would like to extend my warm congratulations on the successful screening of the programs of the China Media Group in the Republic of Tajikistan," Elena Batenkova, editor-in-chief of Russian service at the National Information Agency of Tajikistan (NIAT) Khovar, addressed in the video.

The programs will continue to be aired across multiple platforms in Tajikistan, including Khovar News Agency and TV Sinamo, until July 6.

Palestinian death toll in Gaza rises to 37,925: health authorities

The Palestinian death toll from the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip has risen to 37,925, health authorities in the Palestinian enclave said in a statement on Tuesday.

Additionally, more than 87,100 people had been wounded in the besieged strip since the Palestinian-Israeli conflict broke out in October 2023, health authorities said.

The Israeli army killed 25 people and wounded 81 others in the past 24 hours, according to the statement.

Also on Tuesday, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) issued a statement announcing that Israeli forces conducted a new round of airstrikes in the southern Gaza Strip's Khan Yunis from Monday evening to the early hours of Tuesday.

Local Palestinian media reported that Israeli forces launched airstrikes in multiple locations in the Gaza Strip on that day, resulting in casualties and injuries to several people.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by the IDF, their airstrikes targeting Khan Yunis included Hamas militant weapons depots, residential areas, and other infrastructure facilities.

At least 12 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting an apartment in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources said on Tuesday.

As Israeli forces continue to advance its ground operation on the Gaza Strip, the divisions between the Israeli government and the military are increasingly becoming public.

On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement refuting claims by Israeli military officers and reaffirming that “the war will end once Israel achieves all of its objectives”.

On the same day, Netanyahu issued a strong condemnation in a statement regarding a previous article in The New York Times. The article quoted several anonymous Israeli military officers saying that Israel was willing to reach a ceasefire agreement with Hamas without achieving all objectives, stating that ceasefire was the best way to secure the release of detained individuals.
