East China's Jiangxi jumps through hoops to make LED industry shine

Jiangxi Province in east China has dedicated significant efforts to foster the growth of its LED industry, forming a competitive LED industrial chain.

LED, the third-generation semiconductor light source, finds extensive applications in products such as LED screens, streetlights, mobile phone flashlights, and smart wearable devices.

Today, the LED industry is flourishing in Jiangxi, but the province has gone to lengths from technological research and development to large-scale production.

"There are nearly 400 work procedures [in producing LED chips], which means that we have to debug more than 1,000 parameters and process conditions. But we don't have any previous industrial experience to refer to. We can only manage it by ourselves, doing experiments repeatedly and being meticulous about details," said Wang Qiong, deputy director of the Strategic Development Department of LatticePower Co., Ltd., a LED product provider.

In efforts to shore up weak links of the industry, Jiangxi initiated a promotional plan in 2015 aimed at building a LED industrial base.

Subsequently, Jiangxi adopted a series of favorable LED industrial policies, attracting a flood of leading LED enterprises to establish their presence in the province.

In 2020, Jiangxi introduced an industrial chain chief system, designating high-ranking provincial government officials to serve as industrial chain chiefs to address significant challenges encountered by the enterprises in their development.

"For example, there are challenges related to financing, labor shortages and so on. We've mainly managed to reform the industrial chain chief system, set up data records and encouraged enterprises to explore more business cooperation models to find more new application areas beyond the traditional lighting field," said Nie Yunxia, director of Electronic Information Office of the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Jiangxi.

In 2023, the LED industry of Jiangxi earned a total revenue of 71.59 billion yuan (about 9.85 billion U.S. dollars), a rise of 9.9 percent year on year.

So far, the province has formed a full LED industrial chain including chips production, packing and application.

Music deepens friendship between China, Tajikistan

Music has been serving as a bridge to strengthen the friendship between China and Tajikistan.

Since China and Tajikistan established diplomatic relations in 1992, the bilateral relations have achieved leapfrog development. Under the Belt and Road Initiative, exchanges between two countries have also become more and more frequent.

The Tajikistan state college of music arts in Dushanbe, the country's top music academy, is one of the examples that showcase the cultural exchanges between two countries.

Gulbnur Rahmonova is the head of the college's folk music department. She gave a solo Guzheng performance in 2019 when Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Tajikistan.

"[When the performance ended,] there was prolonged applause. It's safe to say that no one in Tajikistan had ever performed with such an instrument; neither had anyone played it in front of state leaders. Therefore, the performance was really surprising," Rahmonova said.

In November 2015, Tajikistan state college of music arts signed a cooperation agreement with Lanzhou University of Arts and Science, allowing students from both sides to exchange and study in the other college.

"China and Tajikistan are good friends working together for the Belt and Road Initiative. Therefore, I've got an idea to translate this Tajik song into Chinese, and dedicated it to my friends back home and the friendship between China and Tajikistan. So the song is sung in both Tajik and Chinese languages," said Imirin Bexti, a Chinese Tajik studying at the Tajikistan state college of music arts.
