China will take Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's upcoming visit to the country as an opportunity to bring bilateral relations to a new height, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a press briefing in Beijing on Thursday.

She announced that Sheikh Hasina will pay an official visit to China from July 8 to 10.

"This is Prime Minister Hasina's first visit to China since she started her new term, and her second visit to China in five years. During the visit, President Xi Jinping will meet with Prime Minister Hasina. Premier Li Qiang will hold a welcoming ceremony and have talks with her and attend a signing ceremony of cooperation documents together with her. The leaders of the two countries will have in-depth exchanges of views on deepening traditional friendship, expanding mutually beneficial cooperation and international and regional issues of common concern. Prime Minister Hasina will also attend a China-Bangladesh business trade and investment conference," said Mao.

"China and Bangladesh are good neighbors, good friends and good partners, with similar visions of development and shared focuses in development strategies. Over the past 49 years since the establishment of diplomatic relationship, the two countries have always respected each other, treated each other as equals, and achieved mutual benefit and win-win results. They have supported each other on issues involving each other's core interests, and worked hand in hand on the road to modernization, setting an example of friendly cooperation among developing countries. In recent years, under the strategic guidance and personal promotion of the leaders of the two countries, the China-Bangladesh strategic partnership of cooperation has continued to deepen, and practical cooperation in various fields has yielded fruitful results. China is willing to work with Bangladesh to take this visit as an opportunity to carry forward the spirit of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, deepen political mutual trust, strengthen the docking of development strategies, promote high-quality joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, accelerate the implementation of the three major global initiatives (on development, security, and civilization), and constantly push China-Bangladesh relations to new levels," Mao said.
