Visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on Friday attended the inauguration of a new parliament building and a government building aided by China in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan.

Entering the parliament building together, the two heads of state viewed the presentation boards introducing the China-aided project, and jointly unveiled plaques for the two buildings.

Amidst warm applause, Xi delivered a speech.

He extended warm congratulations on the successful completion of the project, expressing sincere appreciation and paying high respect to the builders from both sides for their concerted efforts in ensuring a timely and up-to-standard completion of the project despite the difficulties they faced during the construction.

Noting that China and Tajikistan are friendly neighbors connected by mountains and rivers, Xi said the two countries have further synergized their respective development strategies and promoted comprehensive cooperation in recent years.

The implementation of a series of strategic projects within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative has supported Tajikistan's national development and rejuvenation, delivering tangible benefits to people from all walks of life, Xi said.

The two buildings will become new landmarks symbolizing the friendly cooperation between China and Tajikistan, he said.

Following the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits, China is willing to implement more cooperation projects in Tajikistan to make greater contribution to the country's economic and social development, Xi noted.

Rahmon recalled that five years ago, he and Xi jointly unveiled the construction models for the two buildings.

Highlighting these buildings as the most precious gift President Xi has presented to the Tajik people on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of his first state visit to Tajikistan, Rahmon said the two buildings are a testament to the deep friendship between Tajikistan and China and will be recorded in the annals of Tajik-Chinese relations and appreciated by generations of Tajik people.

Rahmon extended heartfelt gratitude to China for its assistance and to the Chinese builders for their hard work on behalf of the people of Tajikistan.

Rustam Emomali, chairman of the National Assembly of Tajikistan, delivered a vote of thanks.

He said the two new buildings will add new charm and vitality to Dushanbe, becoming a new symbol of the unbreakable friendship between Tajikistan and China.

Tajikistan is committed to advancing the comprehensive strategic partnership with China and has full confidence in the bright future of bilateral relations, he said.

The project for the two buildings was agreed upon during Rahmon's visit to China in 2017. Two years later, when Xi was making a state visit to Tajikistan, the two leaders jointly unveiled the construction models for the buildings.

The project marks the first time that China has deployed a joint design model in an aid project. The two buildings serve as a fine exemplar of the organic fusion of Tajik architectural style and Chinese architectural technology, and constitute a significant result of the Belt and Road cooperation between the two countries.

Lebanon's Hezbollah said on Thursday that the group is willing to consider a ceasefire proposal if it includes guarantees for a truce in the war-torn Gaza Strip.

A member of Lebanese parliament from the Hezbollah coalition made the statement at a news conference in Beirut.

He criticized Israel's strike on a Beirut health care facility that killed at least five people, and warned the international community against Israel's continuous violations of international law.

"The world is facing a challenge. Can they find one humanitarian or international law that Israel hasn't violated? All U.N. charters, U.N. Security Council resolutions, Israel has violated them. Isn't it enough that it tore the U.N. Charter? Isn't it enough that it declared the [U.N.] secretary general an undesirable person, a Persona Non Grata" said Ibrahim Al Moussawi, an Hezbollah official and member of the Lebanese parliament.

The group also vowed to continue their fight until it sees a realistic proposal for a ceasefire.

"The decision for a ceasefire is left to those in the battlefield. We consult with those in the field, and we who deal with politics when we receive an offer that is realistic and would also achieve a ceasefire in Gaza as well. Only then we can consider making a deal," said Ibrahim.

The Israel Defense Forces have been carrying out an unprecedented, intensive air attack on Lebanon, dubbed "Arrows of the North", since Sept. 23, after nearly a year of low-intensity cross-border exchanges of fire with Hezbollah. And in another sign of escalation, the country has launched a ground incursion into Lebanon since early Tuesday.

The Israeli air and ground raids have since killed 1,974 people, including 127 children, wounded 9,350 others, and forced more than 1.2 million civilians to flee their homes, according to the Lebanese health minister.
