Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Monday at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing, calling for continued enrichment of the China-Hungary all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership for the new era. Noting that China and Hungary announced to elevate bilateral relations to an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership for the new era two months ago when he paid a state visit to Hungary, Xi said it gives new historical significance to the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, and injects strong impetus into the high-level development of China-Hungary relations.

The two sides should maintain high-level exchanges, deepen political mutual trust, strengthen strategic communication and coordination, continue to firmly support each other, strengthen practical cooperation in various fields, promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and continue to enrich the connotation of bilateral relations to better benefit the people, Xi said.

The Chinese president congratulated Hungary on taking over the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), and said there is no geopolitical conflict or fundamental conflict of interests between China and the EU.

China-EU relations are of strategic significance and global influence, and the two sides should maintain steady and sound development and jointly meet global challenges, Xi said.

Noting that next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the EU, Xi said the two sides should stick to the correct definition of partnership and the mainstream tone of cooperation, continue to promote two-way opening-up, strengthen international coordination and contribute to world peace, stability, development and prosperity.

It is hoped that Hungary, as the rotating presidency of the EU, will play a positive role in promoting the sound and steady development of China-EU relations and achieving sound interactions, Xi said. Orban said over the past two months, the two sides have earnestly implemented the important outcomes of Xi's visit to Hungary, strengthened friendship and mutual trust, and laid a solid foundation for the future development of Hungary-China relations.

In the face of the current turbulent international situation, China not only loves peace, but also has put forward a series of constructive and important initiatives. With its concrete actions, China has proved that it is an important stabilizing force for world peace, he said.

The Hungarian side highly appreciates and values China's role and influence, and is willing to maintain close strategic communication and coordination with China, Orban said.

Hungary stands for strengthening cooperation with China and opposes "small circles" and bloc confrontation. Hungary is willing to take the rotating presidency of the EU as an opportunity to actively promote the sound development of EU-China relations. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on the Ukraine crisis.

Orban briefed Xi on his recent visits to Ukraine and Russia. President Xi expressed appreciation for Orban's efforts in promoting the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis and elaborated on China's relevant views and propositions. Xi stressed that an early ceasefire and a political settlement are in the interests of all parties, saying that the priority is to cool down the situation through observing the three principles of no expansion of the battlefield, no escalation of fighting, and no fanning by any party over the flames.

Xi called on the international community to create conditions and provide support for the resumption of direct dialogue and negotiation between the two sides, saying that only if all major countries inject positive rather than negative energy, can a ceasefire in this conflict emerge as soon as possible.

China has been actively promoting peace talks in its own way and encouraging and supporting all efforts conducive to a peaceful settlement of the crisis, he said, adding that the basic propositions of China and Hungary and the direction of their efforts are the same, and China is willing to stay in communication with Hungary and all relevant parties.

Visitors flock to Beijing's suburb to watch World Table Tennis China Smash 2024

As Chinese people enjoy their week-long National Day holiday, many have flocked to the western suburb of Beijing to experience the excitement of the World Table Tennis China Smash 2024, which concluded on Sunday after eleven days of fierce competition among the world's top players.

As the premier event on the World Table Tennis circuit, this year's WTT Smash is taking place from September 26 to October 6 at Beijing's Shougang Park.

At Smash Park on the western outskirt of Beijing, table tennis enthusiasts gathered to watch live matches on a big screen while relaxing on the lawn and enjoying the cool autumn breeze.

Families and friends cheered for their favorite players, calling this one of the best ways to spend the holiday this October.

"I've been a huge fan of table tennis for many years. I watched the matches inside the venue on September 29. It's fantastic to have an event like this in Beijing during the National Day holiday. The atmosphere is amazing," said Ma Qiuyu, a resident.

The Smash Park features four main zones: outdoor competitions, interactive entertainment, brand exhibitions, and dining. DJ performances are staged during breaks between matches, adding to the festive atmosphere.

One of the highlights for many fans is the daily meet-and-greet, where star players interact with the crowd and sign autographs.

Notably, the event is held in the Ice Hockey, Short Track Speed Skating, and Figure Skating venues—facilities used during the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

"I came from Qingdao with my wife and kids specifically to watch the matches. I work in architecture and urban design, so I'm really impressed with how Shougang Park has transformed from a steel factory into Winter Games venues, and now into a space for the WTT Smash," said Liu Yang, a tourist from Shandong Province.

This is the first time in over six decades that Beijing has hosted a top table tennis event under the International Table Tennis Federation. Champions will receive 2,000 world ranking points. Beijing has secured the rights to host the WTT China Smash from 2024 to 2028, all set to take place at Shougang Park, making full use of its Winter Olympics legacy.
