Chinese weightlifters who are qualified for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, France, have been busy doing intense preparation work that includes laps in the training pool.
Weightlifting events in the Paris Olympics are slated to take place on August 7-11. Six Chinese weightlifters will take part in this year’s events, including four former gold medalists Shi Zhiyong, Hou Zhihui, Li Wenwen, and Li Fabin.
The Chinese weightlifting team will head to Paris in two separate groups, with the first leaving on Aug 3 and the second on the Aug 6, based on the competition schedule.
The final participation list was revealed in April after the World Cup, with the men's team expected to face slightly stiffer competition than the women. In the meantime, coach Yu Jie says preventing injuries is the most important issue for his squad in the final run-up to the Games.
"The next phase for us is pre-Olympic training, which is the most important thing. We must do a good job on the success rate of movements, and prevent injuries. So precise control in training is very important," Yu said.
Around 10,500 athletes from more than 200 countries and regions are expected to take part in the Paris Olympics from July 26 to Aug 11.
