Residents of the Gaza Strip have welcomed the meeting between the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Beijing this weekend, calling for genuine reconciliation and unity among Palestinians.
"After 21 years of humiliation and contempt for each other, we must say enough is enough. Everyone has to seek reconciliation. Everyone must see these children. We demand that China not let Fatah and Hamas leave until true reconciliation is achieved," said Mohammed Zaqoot, a Gaza resident.
"We hope these efforts will bring fruitful results to all Palestinians. The war must stop. They must unite with each other -- our brothers in Fatah and Hamas, because the people of Gaza are the ones who are paying the heaviest price," said Ouda Khodari, another Gaza resident.
Amjad Shawa, director of the Palestinian Non-Governmental Organizations Network, expressed hope that China's efforts to facilitate dialogue between Fatah and Hamas will lead to an end of the longstanding political division as China is leveraging its relationships with various Palestinian factions to foster unity amidst ongoing political tensions and a severe humanitarian crisis.
"China has a good relationship with various Palestinian parties. We hope that through these efforts undertaken by China to bring together Palestinian forces and factions, especially the Fatah and Hamas movements, an agreement will be reached to end the political division, especially in these difficult circumstances and this unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe," Shawa said.
Hamas governs Gaza, while the Fatah movement maintains partial administrative control in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. The two factions have been embroiled in a bitter rivalry since the 2006 Palestinian legislative elections.
The reconciliation talks in Beijing, aimed at resolving the serious political divisions between the two groups, are seen as crucial for ending the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

China has established the world's largest and most comprehensive new energy industrial chain, demonstrating its progress in green and low-carbon development, the country's top economic planner said Friday during the ongoing UN climate change conference in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Wen Hua, deputy director of the Department of Resource Conservation and Environmental Protection of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), shared the country's impressive strides in green and low-carbon initiatives during his keynote speech at a side event themed "Energy Saving and Carbon Reduction: China's Actions" held at the China Pavilion during the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change or COP29.
He noted that China has established the world's most systematic and comprehensive carbon reduction policy framework, with significant results in energy transition. The total installed capacity of wind and solar power generation has reached the internationally committed target more than six years ahead of schedule.
Meanwhile, China has successfully optimized and upgraded its industrial structure, building the world's largest and most complete new energy industrial chain.
Green transformation in the construction and transportation sectors has accelerated, with over 90 percent of new urban buildings now green-certified.
What's more, the annual production of new energy vehicles has exceeded 10 million units this year, making the country the first in the world to reach this significant milestone.
Wen also emphasized the country's significant improvements in resource utilization efficiency, noting that the productivity of major resources had increased by around 60 percent over the past decade.
COP29, which kicked off on Nov 11, will run until Nov 22.
