China's hydrogen energy industry expo held from Wednesday to Thursday in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, echoes a set of guidelines issued recently by the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council to ramp up green transition in all areas of economic and social development.
The 2nd Western Hydrogen Energy Expo hosted by Yulin City showcased a range of new technologies and products across the hydrogen energy industry chain covering production, storage, transportation, and applications.
A solid oxide fuel cell gained attention at the expo. It boasts the ability to generate electricity using a variety of substances including hydrogen, natural gas, and biomass gas, achieving an energy utilization rate of 80-90 percent. The core of this remarkable device lies in its battery piece.
"This battery piece in my hand is capable of generating electricity, producing hydrogen, and performing electrolysis of carbon dioxide and water and converting them into carbon monoxide and hydrogen. It can absorb carbon dioxide and reduce emissions, therefore contributing to a greener, lower-carbon society," said Ao Hongyuan, an exhibitor.
Hydrogen transportation constitutes a significant cost factor within the hydrogen energy industry chain, acting as a major bottleneck hindering the industry's growth. Research and development of innovative hydrogen transportation pipelines can enhance the transportation capacity of hydrogen.
"The high-pressure pure hydrogen transportation pipeline we've developed adopts low-carbon, low-manganese, low-sulfur, and low-phosphorus components, which effectively solves the technical difficulties of long-distance hydrogen transportation. Its annual transportation capacity of pure hydrogen can reach 100,000 tons," said Li Jiaqi, an exhibitor.
Nearly 100 companies, universities, and research institutes from across the country participated in the expo.
