Chinese President Xi Jinping held a welcome ceremony for Malaysia's King Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Friday.

A military band played the national anthems of Malaysia and China, and a 21-gun salute was fired.

Sultan Ibrahim, accompanied by Xi, reviewed the Guard of Honor of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and watched a march-past of the Guard of Honor.

Also attending the welcome ceremony were Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and also director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, and other senior Chinese officials.

Sultan Ibrahim's entourage includes a prince, minister of transport, and minister of housing and local government.

Sultan Ibrahim arrived in Beijing on Thursday for a four-day state visit to China at the invitation of Xi.

This is Sultan Ibrahim's first visit to a non-ASEAN country after he was sworn in as the head of state of Malaysia in January.
