President Xi Jinping on Monday said that the Chinese people will score more remarkable achievements and make greater contributions to the noble cause of peace and development of humanity.

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks at a reception held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC), which falls on Oct 1.

Premier Li Qiang presided over the reception. Other state leaders Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi and Han Zheng attended the event together with around 3,000 Chinese and foreign guests.

In his address, Xi conveyed high regard and warm greetings to people from all walks of life across the nation and heartfelt appreciation to friendly countries and international friends supporting China's modernization drive.

"On behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, I would like to pay high tribute to the people of all ethnic groups in China, to the officers and soldiers of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and the People's Armed Police Force, and to other political parties and personages without party affiliation. I would like to extend sincere greetings to compatriots compatriots in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, in Taiwan, as well as overseas Chinese. I would also like to express heartfelt gratitude to friendly countries and international friends who care about and support the development of the PRC," he said.

On the new journey in the new era, the central task of the Party and the country is building China into a strong country and achieving national rejuvenation on all fronts by pursuing Chinese modernization, said Xi.

Advancing this unprecedented great cause steadily is the best way to celebrate the anniversary of the PRC, he stressed.

Xi emphasized that, to advance Chinese modernization, it is imperative to always uphold the core role of the Party in exercising overall leadership and coordinating the efforts of all sides, unswervingly follow the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, deepen reform across the board, expand opening up, uphold a people-centered approach, and remain committed to peaceful development.

The Chinese president stressed that to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is the common aspiration of all Chinese people, including compatriots in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. He called for safeguarding and promoting the long-term prosperity and stability in Hong Kong and Macao, and underscored that the complete reunification of the motherland is an inevitable trend, a matter of righteousness, and the will of the people.

Noting that human beings share one Earth, and the destinies of peoples around the world are interconnected, Xi said the common values of all humanity should be promoted, and an equal and orderly multi-polar world and inclusive economic globalization should be advocated for. He called for the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative.

He noted that China should actively participate in the reform and construction of the global governance system, and work towards building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Xi also warned of challenges and obstacles on the course of advancing Chinese modernization, and urged the nation to remain vigilant in times of peace and prepare for potential dangers. No difficulty can halt the progress of the Chinese people, he said.

The reception concluded with guests from both home and abroad raising their glasses amid joyful music to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the PRC.

China's stock market embraces epic surge ahead of National Day holiday

2024-09-30 22:25 Last Updated At:10-01 01:27

The recent rally in China's stock markets, fueled by a series of stimulus measures, has significantly ignited investors' enthusiasm and bolstered market confidence in the country's economic recovery.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index surged 8.06 percent to close at 3,336.50 points on Monday, while the Shenzhen Component Index soared 10.67 percent to reach 10,529.76 points at the close.

The ChiNext Index, a NASDAQ-style subsidiary of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange tracking growth and tech-heavy enterprises, skyrocketed 15.36 percent to close at 2175.09 points.

Monday is the last trading day before the week-long National Day holiday. Chinese stock markets will be closed from Tuesday through Oct. 7.

The trading volume on the Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses hit some 2.6 trillion yuan (about 370 billion U.S. dollars) on Monday, reaching a historic high.

More than 700 stocks listed on the two bourses hit their daily limits, with over 2,700 stocks gaining more than 10 percent.

China last week unveiled a slew of stimulus measures, including interest rate cuts, aimed at boosting economic growth and stabilizing the property market, triggering a broad rally in the stock market.

"In today's market performance, securities firms, liquor producers and real estate developers topped the gainers list. Judging by the current situation, with the continuous introduction of policies to ensure stable growth and marginal improvements in economic data, economic expectations are expected to warm up. With the establishment of a 'policy bottom,' optimistic anticipation of future policies is likely to further boost the stock market. Funds are still rapidly increasing positions in the main board index, indicating a potential continuation of the upward market trend," said Tian Lihui, director of the Institute of Finance and Development at Nankai University in north China's Tianjin Municipality.

Following this short-term surge, continued optimism over economic policies is likely to further elevate the stock market, with further increases expected in the Shanghai Composite Index, according to Yang Delong, chief economist at Qianhai Open Source Fund.

A series of monetary, fiscal, and capital market policies released in a short period of time are catalyzing this growth momentum, leading to a comprehensive reversal in policy expectations, Yang said, noting that optimistic economic forecasts are beginning to take root, significantly boosting investor confidence as a result.
