Interdepartmental working group on festival arrangements releases latest information for cross-boundary travellers after National Day Fireworks Display

The interdepartmental working group on festival arrangements, led by the Chief Secretary for Administration, released the following information today (October 1) on the latest situation and arrangements for the 2024 National Day Golden Week.

As it is anticipated that there will be higher number of travellers making use of land-based Boundary Control Points (BCPs) to leave Hong Kong after the National Day Fireworks Display this evening, the Transport Department (TD) appeals to these travellers to plan ahead their journeys, reserve sufficient commuting time and note the following arrangements:

(a) the operating hours of MTR services will not be extended this evening but train frequencies will be increased after the Fireworks Display for crowd dispersal. Those travellers heading for Shenzhen may take MTR East Rail Line whose last departure heading for Lo Wu will leave Admiralty Station at 11.01pm;

(b) Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and Lok Ma Chau-Huanggang Port are operated round-the-clock. The services of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) shuttle bus (Gold Bus), the Lok Ma Chau-Huanggang cross-boundary shuttle bus (Yellow Bus) and Lok Ma Chau-Huanggang short-haul cross-boundary coaches will be enhanced to facilitate travellers to return to Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Macao after the Fireworks Display; and

(c) local public transport operators will arrange spare vehicles and manpower to meet the travel need of cross-boundary travellers.

The TD's Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre will continue to operate 24 hours to closely monitor the traffic conditions and public transport services of various districts including BCPs and major stations. The TD will also disseminate the latest traffic information through various channels.

The interdepartmental working group on festival arrangements is tasked with holistically reviewing and steering the overall co-ordination efforts of various government departments to welcome visitors to Hong Kong during the National Day Golden Week, as well as strengthening information dissemination to enable the public and visitors to plan their itineraries according to the latest situation. The working group will continue to monitor various circumstances during the Golden Week, taking appropriate measures based on practical needs and making timely announcements.

National Day 75th Anniversary@Domain celebrates 75th anniversary of founding of People's Republic of China

​ To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) today (October 1) held the National Day 75th Anniversary@Domain event at Domain shopping mall in Yau Tong. The Secretary for Housing and Chairman of the HA, Ms Winnie Ho, the Permanent Secretary for Housing and Director of Housing, Miss Rosanna Law, and the Under Secretary for Housing, Mr Victor Tai, attended the event to share the happiness of National Day celebrations with the public on this significant commemorative occasion.

Under the theme of dreams, there were four highlight events: a string performance, Dream on Stage Finals, a fashion show and an indoor drone show. The event demonstrated the pride of the development of the motherland from the building of dreams, pursuing them and realising them, to looking towards the future.

The Hong Kong String Orchestra opened the event playing a number of pieces of Chinese folk music. Then, five teams that had advanced from the preliminary round gave their best at the Dream on Stage finals after coaching and training by professional instructors. Miss Law served as the judge and presented the awards.

An elderly fashion show featured Ms Ho leading 11 elderly people, from different public housing estates, wearing costumes, rich in Chinese elements, designed by the School of Fashion and Textiles of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The participants fully devoted themselves to realise their dreams. Miss Law and Mr Tai also joined the catwalk wearing traditional Chinese costumes.The finale was an indoor Drone Grand Show by 100 drones which helped brighten the venue, bringing the public together to share the joy of the National Day.

The HA hoped that through the colourful and interactive National Day celebratory event, members of the public could appreciate the unique charm of fine traditional Chinese culture.
