The nationwide travel rush has continued into Thursday, the third day of China's week-long National Day holiday, with major railway, expressway and air transport hubs each operating in high gear.

According to the China State Railway Group, 852 trains have been added to cope with the surging passenger trips, which are estimated to total 17.3 million on Thursday.

The railway network handled a daily record high of around 21.45 million passenger trips on the first day of the holiday, the railway authorities said.

The China Railway Beijing Group planned to handle 1.46 million passenger trips on Thursday and operate 61 additional pairs of passenger trains, mainly bound for transportation hubs including Shanghai, Shenyang, Taiyuan, Zhengzhou, and Xi'an.

The Yangtze River Delta railway system that covers Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui is expected to transport 3.55 million passengers on the same day and will add 153 passenger trains.

The China Railway Guangdong Group is expected to transport 2.617 million passengers on Thursday and arrange additional 180 passenger trains, mainly bound for popular destinations such as Hunan and the province's southeast region from Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

The country's expressways have been in high gear, with road networks around cities such as Beijing, Ningbo, Chongqing, Shanghai, and Wuxi facing relatively higher pressure on the day.

The civil aviation sector is expected to handle 2.22 million passenger trips on Thursday, according to official estimates. That's a slight drop from Wednesday's 2.30 million.

CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd., China's state-owned train manufacturer, continues to break ground in high-speed rail technology, showcasing China's technological progress and leadership in the global railway industry.

In 2017, CRRC launched the flagship Fuxing high-speed EMU (electric multiple unit) train, which boasts a maximum speed of 350 km/h, making it the fastest commercial high-speed train in the world.

In this June, CRRC introduced the latest intelligent Fuxing high-speed trains on the Beijing-Shanghai railway line, which provides more comfort for passengers with additional seats, larger luggage racks, WiFi, and wireless charging. CRRC Changchun now is speeding up the production in its bustling workshop.

"The advent of the Fuxing high-speed trains not only represents a leap from self-manufacturing to self-innovation in China's high-speed rail industry, but also sets a new global benchmark for high-speed rail technology with Chinese standards," said Liu Junyang, vehicle chief designer at CRRC Changchun.

Over the decades, CRRC Changchun has developed more than 20 types of multiple-unit trains, which have been exported to over 20 countries with its other products, such as metro cars and maglev trains.

"We are currently focusing on developing the next generation of high-speed trains that are faster, safer, more environmentally friendly, more energy-efficient, and more intelligent, better meeting the needs of passengers and keeping China's high-speed rail at the forefront globally," said engineer Shi He at CRRC Changchun.
