Two sides of Chinese-built Magufuli Bridge in Tanzania successfully connected

The two sides of the main Magufuli Bridge across Lake Victoria in Tanzania's Mwanza region were succesfully connected on Sunday.

As a flagship project of China-Africa cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, the Chinese-built bridge will cut cross-lake travel time from the current two hours to four minutes, thus injecting vitality into local socioeconomic development.

The main bridge has a total length of 520 meters. While building the bridge, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), the constructor, has incorperated green construction techniques in the project to minimize the impact of construction on the lake's water quality. 

Following the connection, the bridge will enter the phase of asphalt paving and ancillary projects construction. The bridge is set to be completed and open to traffic by the end of 2024.

Chinese State Councilor Shen Yiqin attended a reception celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia at the Russian embassy in Beijing on Tuesday.

Shen, also the Chinese chairman of the China-Russia Committee on Humanities Cooperation, said that under the guidance of the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, China is willing to work with Russia to take the opportunity of celebrating the 75th anniversary of China-Russia diplomatic ties and the China-Russia Years of Culture to deepen cooperation in various fields and create more benefits for both peoples.

Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov said Russia stands ready to further deepen its traditional friendship with China and push for greater development of Russia-China relations.
