Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with his Colombian counterpart Luis Gilberto Murillo in Beijing on Thursday.
At the invitation of Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, the Colombian Minister of Foreign Affairs started a four-day visit to China on Wednesday.
Noting that China and Colombia are good friends and good partners, Wang said the bilateral relations have always maintained a good momentum of development since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Colombian President Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego jointly announced the elevation of China-Colombia relations to a strategic partnership last October, leading the bilateral ties to a new stage of development, Wang said, adding that the two sides have been actively implementing the important consensus of the heads of state and steadily advancing the mutually beneficial cooperation.
"As the year of 2025 marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Colombia, I would like to work with you on deepening our exchanges and cooperation across various fields," said Wang Yi.
He said that China is ready to strengthen economic and trade ties with Colombia, expand cooperation in fields including infrastructure, green development, clean energy, 5G and artificial intelligence, and support the South American country's green and sustainable development.
China is willing to enhance people-to-people exchanges and cement the public support for the China-Colombia friendship, Wang said.
He also noted that China encourages more Chinese companies to invest and do business in Colombia, and welcomes more high-quality and distinctive Colombian products to enter the Chinese market.
Wang introduced the history of the Taiwan question, emphasizing that Taiwan is a part of China's territory and that the Taiwan question is a legacy of China's civil war, which will be completely resolved so as to realize the complete reunification of China.
China appreciates the long-standing adherence of the Colombian side to the one-China principle, and is willing to continue to firmly support each other in safeguarding their core interests, Wang said.
He said the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which upholds the concept of "extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits," has become the most popular international public good and the largest international cooperation platform, and has paved a path of cooperation, opportunity and prosperity.
China welcomes Colombia to join the BRI family at an early date to strengthen the synergy of development strategies, share development opportunities and speed up the modernization process of each other, Wang said.
Hailing China's remarkable development achievements, Murillo said his country thanks China for its valuable support and assistance to its peace process and development transformation, and looks forward to learning from China's experience in poverty reduction, sustainable development and people-centered governance.
Noting that the Colombia-China relationship is at its best in history, Murillo said Colombia is willing to make every effort to implement the important strategic consensus reached by President Petro and President Xi, and take the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year as an opportunity to deepen cooperation in various fields.
"We elevated our relations to a strategic partnership, and I'm here today to continue enriching this relationship," said Murillo.
He said Colombia attaches great importance to and is willing to actively participate in BRI cooperation to bring greater benefits to the Colombian people.
Murillo stressed that Taiwan is an integral part of China's territory and Colombia will continue to firmly abide by the one-China principle and support China's legitimate position.
The two sides spoke highly of the fruitful outcomes of the China-CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Forum.
Murillo said Colombia will make every effort to push for more new achievements in CELAC-China cooperation after assuming the rotating presidency of CELAC next year.
Wang said that China supports Colombia in performing its duties and is willing to work closely with Colombia to jointly advance China-CELAC overall cooperation and help the development and revitalization of Latin American and Caribbean countries.
