Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chinese president, met with Luong Cuong, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and permanent member of the CPV Central Committee Secretariat, in Beijing on Friday.
Xi pointed out that adhering to the leadership of the communist party and the socialist system constitutes the most essential feature of China and Vietnam, and serves as the most solid political foundation for developing bilateral relations.
Noting that China takes Vietnam as a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy, Xi said China is ready to work with Vietnam to take the lead in deepening high-level mutually beneficial cooperation, safeguarding international fairness and justice, and promoting the cause of human progress, and jointly foster a China-Vietnam community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.
Xi stressed that against the backdrop of rapid global changes unseen in a century, China and Vietnam should align on the political direction and handle bilateral relations from a strategic height to ensure the advancement of bilateral ties along the right track. The two sides should strengthen exchanges of philosophies, make good use of institutionalized platforms to enhance mutual learning on governance, and jointly improve the ability to govern.
The two sides should tap the potential for cooperation, comprehensively advance strategic alignment and connectivity, and strive to achieve new high-quality development goals for practical cooperation. The two sides should also promote friendly people-to-people exchanges, use the 75th anniversary of establishment of China-Vietnam diplomatic relations and China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges next year as an opportunity to enhance education and media guidance on traditional friendship to lay a solid public opinion foundation for the long-term development of bilateral relations, Xi said.
Xi said China's efforts in further deepening reform comprehensively and promoting high-level opening up will not only bring forward broad prospects for its own development, but also bring new momentum and opportunities for the development of Vietnam and other countries around the world.
China is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Vietnam and join hands as companions on the road of reform and partners on the road to modernization, Xi said.
Xi noted that he believes under the leadership of general secretary of the CPV Central Committee To Lam, Vietnam will successfully fulfill the goals and tasks set by the 13th National Congress of the CPV and make steady progress toward its centennial goal.
For his part, Cuong warmly congratulated the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and the great development achievements made by Chinese people especially in the new era, saying that Vietnam firmly believes that China will achieve its second centenary goal within the set time frame and make greater contributions to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and around the world.
He said Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era not only provides important guidance for socialist cause in China, but has substantial value for socialist countries like Vietnam and the international community.
Noting that China and Vietnam are both socialist countries and neighbors connected by mountains and rivers, Cuong said Vietnam has always regarded developing relations with China as the objective necessity, a strategic choice and top priority of its overall foreign policy.
Cuong stressed that Vietnam will continue to work with China to effectively implement the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two parties and countries, promote substantive cooperation across various fields with solid progress, better manage and settle differences, consolidate and deepen the spirit featuring "comrades and brothers," and continuously push for new achievements in building a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and a community of shared future between Vietnam and China.
