China Media Group (CMG) on Monday held a people-to-people and cultural exchange event in Milan, Italy, launching a number of China-Italy co-organized television and online programs to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Italy comprehensive strategic partnership.
Italian Tourism Minister Daniela Santanche, CMG Deputy Director Xing Bo, Chairman of Mediaset Fedele Confalonieri, Italian editorial group Class Editori's CEO Paolo Panerai, Italian media Il Giornale's CEO Nicola Speroni, and Chinese Consul General in Milan Liu Kan attended the event and delivered speeches. Cortina d'Ampezzo's Mayor Gianluca Lorenzi delivered a video speech.
Santanche emphasized that the strong bond between Italy and China is deeply ingrained in a history of cultural exchanges and economic ties spanning millennia, noting that during her recent visit to China, she keenly felt the warmth and admiration of the Chinese people towards Italy.
She said that Italy stands out as a top travel destination for Chinese tourists, with the allure of the country steadily growing, adding that the reciprocal visits between the people of both nations hold paramount significance in driving economic growth, fostering mutual understanding, and fortifying longstanding friendships.
Santanche said that as 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Italy comprehensive strategic partnership, Italy is committed to further solidifying this partnership, stressing that strengthening dialogue and collaboration between Italy and China serves the interests of both countries, the region, and the world in terms of security and development.
As the largest and most versatile international media powerhouse in the world today, CMG is committed to advancing cultural exchanges and mutual understanding between China and Italy, striving to deepen media collaboration between the two nations, focusing on creating top-notch programs, innovating in media technology, fostering talent exchange, and embracing the fresh opportunities arising from China's reform and development in the new era, said Xing.
During the event, two new TV programs co-produced by CMG and Italian media partners were unveiled: "Voyage," a significant talk show on China's progress co-produced with Class Editori Media Group for broadcast on ClassCNBC in Italy, and "Discovering China," a program produced in collaboration with Netweek S.p.A. to delve into China's modernization and the China-Italy cooperation initiatives.
To commemorate the 700th anniversary of legendary Italian traveler Marco Polo's death and strengthen China-Italy relations, CMG and Italian media Il Giornale launched a collaborative online platform titled "The China-Italy Bridge", which will facilitate dialogue and understanding between Chinese and Italian audiences by showcasing the breadth of cooperation between the two nations.
CMG also exchanged cooperation documents with Italian Milano Finanza and Italian Telespazio at the launch event, paving the way for enhanced collaboration in content sharing, joint productions, and high-definition broadcasting.
The event was attended by about 200 Italian guests from various sectors including politics, economics, media, culture, and sports.
As one of China's major broadcasters, CMG is a broadcasting platform made up of China Central Television, China National Radio and China Radio International.
