A young male panda was filmed playfully biting and wrestling with an older co-habitant at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, showcasing a humorous moment reminiscent of a tired mother managing a mischievous child.
In the footage captured at the Starry Sky Giant Panda Pavilion, panda cub Lun Wu can be seen energetically embracing his elder, a female named Zhao Mei, playfully nipping at her and eventually pushing her to the ground.
Zhao Mei, also called Zhao Xiaomei, was rescued in May 2014 from the wild in Sichuan's Zhaojue County, where she was discovered by the Miyi County Dafengding Protection Bureau.
Lun Wu, born in 2023, is affectionately nicknamed "Little Ao Bai" due to his resemblance to an outrageous historical character during his early days. The naughty cub currently resides with Zhao Mei, who acts as his surrogate mother, at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.
The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a world-renowned institution for the conservation of giant pandas. The base is famous for its work in protecting and breeding giant pandas, red pandas and other endangered wild animal species exclusive to China as well as its educational outreach programs and its role as a major tourist attraction.
The video footage was filmed on Sept 13 and was released on the iPanda channel on Oct 8.
