Peru hopes to diversify its exports to the important Chinese market through its participation in the upcoming 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, said Fernando Quirós Campos, director of Asia and Oceania department of the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Wednesday.
Speaking in an interview with China Central Television (CCTV) in Lima, capital of Peru, Fernando Quirós Campos praised China's initiative to organize the CIIE as "valuable and unique," particularly for countries like Peru that seek to diversify their exports to China.
"I think it is a valuable initiative, very valuable, and I would say it is unique, different, because most countries always do these events to promote their exports. China, in this case, stands out by organizing a great event to promote imports and that, for countries like Peru, which seeks to diversify our exports to such important markets like China. We find the initiative is very commendable and Peruvian companies will definitely be present," he said.
The official expressed his hope to enhance Peru's trade with China, which is vital for the country, through participation in the CIIE, which will run from Nov 5 to 10 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai).
"We believe that trade with China, while important for Peru, still has a lot of room for further development, expansion and, above all, diversification. In this sense, we believe that initiatives such as the upcoming inauguration of the port of Chancay will allow us to attract new investments to have processing plants in Peru that can produce and export to China. We hope to go to this import fair in Shanghai this year and in the years to come with more and better products, with higher added value, Peruvian products to offer to China," Fernando Quirós Campos said.
Themed "New Era, Shared Future," this edition of the CIIE has attracted participants from 152 countries, regions and international organizations, and achieved a new record with 297 Fortune Global 500 companies and industry leaders set to attend.
