Chinese Premier Li Qiang delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the seventh China International Import Expo (CIIE) and the Hongqiao International Economic Forum in Shanghai on Tuesday.

Nothing that holding the CIIE is an important measure for China to expand opening-up and cooperation, representing a solemn commitment to the world.

If the first CIIE was a one-way invitation from China to the world, each subsequent expo represents a mutual commitment between China and the world, reflecting a shared desire for mutual cooperation, the premier said.

Challenged by a rising backlash against globalization and mounting unilateralism and protectionism, the cause of global peace and development is facing increasing uncertainties and instabilities, said Li.

Under such circumstance, it is all the more important for all parties to continue to uphold, expand and improve opening-up, said Li.

Li put forward three suggestions: First, to better build a consensus on opening up by adhering to trust and commitment. China will further expand institutional opening-up. Second, to better expand the space for opening up by adhering to mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. China is willing to further open its vast market, transforming it into a global opportunity. Third, to better undertake the mission of opening up by upholding shared destiny. China is willing to continue close coordination with all parties in international economic organizations and work together to build an open world economy.

The opening ceremony was attended by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, Mongolian Prime Minister Luvsannamsrai Oyun-Erdene, Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic, among others, who delivered speeches.

World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Secretary-General Rebeca Grynspan also gave video addresses.

Approximately 1,500 leaders and representatives from 152 countries, regions, and international organizations attended the opening ceremony.

Before the opening ceremony, Li visited the business exhibition. After the ceremony, he toured the exhibition hall with the foreign leaders in attendance.

The CIIE is the world's first national-level exposition dedicated to imports. This year's expo is scheduled to run from November 5 to 10.
