The ongoing seventh China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai features a green, clean-energy future of the global auto industry, according to experts.
This year's CIIE has gathered nearly 40 companies in the auto-related sector from 11 countries and regions, with more than 70 percent of them ranking among Fortune Global 500 companies. Nearly all the exhibitors are presenting cutting-edge products and solutions related to renewable energy.
Hyundai Motor, South Korea's biggest automaker, is participating in the expo for the seventh consecutive year. It has come with its vehicles powered by advanced hydrogen fuel cells, a promising green alternative to internal-combustion engines.
In the past few years, Hyundai has expanded its hydrogen fuel cell system production lines in China and has just put into operation over 100 hydrogen fuel cell-powered garbage collection vehicles and cargo trucks in the country's southern metropolis of Guangzhou.
According to Yin Yong-il, president of the Hyundai Motor Group China N Brand Business, the South Korean company is seeking a bigger footprint in China, the world's largest producer and consumer of hydrogen.
"Going forward, Hyundai Motor Group will keep expanding its hydrogen energy business in China and join hands with more outstanding Chinese enterprises in hydrogen energy industry, to strive for win-win cooperation, together foster the new quality productive forces led by hydrogen energy, and contribute to China's transition to a hydrogen society," Yin said in an interview with China Central Television at the exhibition on Wednesday.
Like Hyundai Motor, the Prometeon Tire Group is also displaying its upgraded products that are more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly at this year's expo. The multinational company has focused on launching more advanced products in the Chinese market in the coming years, according to Alexandre Bregantim, the group's global chief technology officer.
The auto section of this year's expo is also giving more prominence to products and solutions related to low-carbon and smart travel, new types of energy storage, and low-altitude economy, areas in which China is also developing quickly while offering enormous cooperation opportunities.
Gu Chunting, deputy director of the Council for Promotion of International Trade in Shanghai, said that the expo is spotlighting all these future trends in the global auto industry, which shows China's long-term commitment to opening up its own auto industry and welcoming more international collaboration.
"This not only complies with the future development trends of green, low-carbon and smart travel in the automotive industry, but also provides a very important reference to the high-quality development of China's auto industry. Since the CIIE was first held seven years ago, we have seen that many multinational companies have actively participated in the expo, especially the auto section which has always been dedicated to investment promotion and open cooperation," said Gu.
This year's CIIE is running from Tuesday to Sunday under the theme of "New Era, Shared Future." It has attracted participants from 152 countries, regions, and international organizations and achieved a new record with 297 Fortune Global 500 companies and industry leaders in attendance.
