The total number of registered business entities in China had reached 188 million by the end of September 2024, indicating a 3.9-percent year-on-year rise, the State Administration for Market Regulation said on Friday.
Of this total, 60.2 million were companies while over 125 million were self-employed businesses, increasing by 6.1 percent and 3 percent year on year, respectively.
In the first three quarters of this year, the country recorded about 20.7 million newly registered business entities, of which, newly registered companies and newly registered self-employed businesses reached 6.62 million and 14.02 million, respectively.
In the same period, there were about 7.03 million newly registered self-employed businesses in the wholesale and retail sectors, while in the accommodation and catering industry, the number was slightly above 2.12 million.
The proportion of private enterprises in the total number of registered enterprises maintained stable at 92.3 percent, the data showed. By the end of September, China had over 55 million registered private enterprises, and in the first three quarters, the number of newly registered private enterprises surpassed 6.19 million.
