Death toll from Israeli strikes on Lebanon rises to 3,102

2024-11-08 19:49 Last Updated At:20:27

The death toll from Israeli attacks on Lebanon since the beginning of the Israeli-Hezbollah conflict on Oct. 8, 2023 had reached 3,102, with injuries rising to 13,819, the Lebanese Health Ministry said on Thursday.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Thursday that its air force struck a Hezbollah command and control center in the Lebanese southern city of Tyre, which the IDF claimed had been used for drone surveillance and attacks on Israel.

Hezbollah weapon depots and launchers deployed across Lebanon were also attacked, said the IDF.

Over the past several weeks, an Israeli brigade killed dozens of Hezbollah fighters in southern Lebanon and removed multiple Hezbollah military facilities, the IDF said.

By 23:00 Thursday, about 125 projectiles had been launched towards Israel by Hezbollah within the day, said the IDF.

Meanwhile, a statement released by Hezbollah early on Friday said that it had carried out 21 attacks on Israeli targets on Thursday, inflicting casualties on an Israeli infantry unit in the southern Lebanese village of Yaroun. It also fired rockets at the Israeli forces in Maroun al-Ras, northeast of Yaroun and in Fatima Gate in the southeastern Lebanese village of Kafr Kila.

Hezbollah also claimed having fired rockets toward Eliakim base, south of northern Israeli city of Haifa, and Stella Maris Naval Base, northwest of the city.

The ongoing clashes between Israel and Hezbollah began on Oct. 8, 2023, when Hezbollah fired rockets into Israel in support of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, prompting retaliatory fire and airstrikes by Israel in southeastern Lebanon.

Since Sept. 23 this year, the Israeli army has intensified its airstrikes against Hezbollah across Lebanon, resulting in significant civilian casualties and displacing residents from many areas.
