Concert goers were captivated by the "Echoes of Tang Poetry" concert performed by two reputed American musical institutions in cultural exchange at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing on November 2.
The concert was performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Asian American Performing Arts Center from the United States.
Fourteen vocalists from nine countries including China, the United States and Italy performed Tang poetry in Chinese. The concert featured seven symphonic pieces based on poetry of ancient China's Tang Dynasty (618-709), composed by musicians from several countries.
This marked the orchestra's 13th cultural exchange tour to China since the 1970s, reinforcing its role as a cultural bridge between China and the U.S.
"Fantastic. We're so happy to be here in this beautiful hall and playing all this incredible repertoire. We have so much music, and it's fun because every day is a new adventure," said Marin Alsop, principal guest conductor of Philadelphia Orchestra.
"The reception, the orchestra and Marin Alsop perceived. When the concert, when the orchestra came on stage. It was incredible, incredible," said Matias Tarnopolsky, President and CEO of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
