A China-Peru cultural exchange event was held in Lima on Friday, showcasing results of fruitful cooperation between the two countries in the cultural, media, academic and other fields.
The event came on the occasion of Chinese President Xi Jinping's stay in Lima to attend the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and pay a state visit to Peru.
The event is co-hosted by China Media Group (CMG), the Office of the Secretary for Strategic Communication and Press under the Presidential Office of Peru, and the National Institute of Radio and Television of Peru (IRTP).
Peruvian President Dina Boluarte addressed the event via video, wishing it a complete success.
Noting that Peru and China are two ancient civilizations, Boluarte said the people of the two countries enjoy profound friendship and are close brothers and friends. The exchanges and cooperation between the two sides will contribute to the prosperity and development of diverse cultures in the world.
The event is a wonderful display of the cultural legacies of both countries and a latest testimony to the friendship and cooperation between the two countries. Through this event, Peru and China will further strengthen exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations, and bring more benefits to the people of both countries, said the Peruvian president.
Also present at the event are Peruvian Minister of Culture Fabricio Alfredo Valencia Gibaja, IRTP Executive President Ninoska Chandia, and Secretary-General of the Andean Community Gonzalo Gutierrez Reinel, among other dignitaries.
They said the event will deepen mutual understanding and trust between the people of the two countries, raise the voice of Global South countries on the world stage, and promote integration and co-existence of world civilizations.
At the event, the CMG reached a wide range of agreements on cooperation with the Peruvian Company of Editorial Services, the University of San Martin de Porres and the Peruvian Center for Advanced National Studies in fields such as news exchange, academic exchanges, and think tank research.
As the achievements of the large-scale media cooperation project "Mutual learning between the civilizations of China and Peru", the two CMG documentaries "Wonderful Stories of China and Peru" and "Sister Cities: Beijing and Lima" were also released at the event.
In addition, a China-Peru cultural tourism project was launched at the event, featuring the CMG's vivid coverage of famous tourist attractions in Peru, which will enable the audience to admire the beautiful natural landscape and unique culture of the Latin American country.
The CMG's FAST production and streaming platform premiered its first Spanish channel at the event, which will cover Spanish-speaking countries across Latin America, helping the local audience to learn about China.
The event also witnessed the successful conclusion of the "Journey Through Civilizations, An Encounter with Liangzhu" 2024 Global Tour, with Peru being the last stop of the cultural exhibition.
Since the launch of the grand event in June this year, various countries, including Britain, Egypt, Ethiopia and Singapore, have held special exhibitions to provide local visitors with an immersive experience of the long history and rich content of the Liangzhu culture through modern technologies.
Located in the Yangtze River Basin of east China's Zhejiang Province, the archeological ruins of Liangzhu, dating back at least 5,000 years, reveal an early regional state with a unified belief system based on rice cultivation in Late Neolithic China. Inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2019, it is recognized as one of the earliest examples of Chinese civilization, The results of a survey on Peruvian people's impression of China were also released at the event, indicating that the majority of Peruvians highly recognize China's development achievements and its contribution to the global economy and believe that the two countries will achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcome by deepening practical cooperation in various fields.
The survey was jointly conducted by the CMG's New Era International Communication Research Institute and the Peruvian Center for Advanced National Studies.
Besides, the CMG presented a copy of the documentary "Antonio Fernandez Arce and his bond with China" to the offspring of the late Peruvian writer and journalist, as a way to express gratitude to Arce's outstanding contributions to the promotion of friendship between the two countries.
Arce lived in China for 48 years and was an important envoy in promoting the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Peru.
A band of the Diez de Octubre School, a Peruvian Chinese school, played famous folk songs of China and Peru at the event.
Nearly 200 representatives from the political, economic, cultural, media and academic communities of Peru attended the event.
